About the ChIRP research group:

We are a group of researchers at the University of Alberta who share a scientific interest in how children develop. As researchers, we come from different academic backgrounds: Linguistics, Psychology, Education, and Agricultural, Life & Environment Sciences. For more information about us, check out our About Us page.

We are looking for participating families:

Our research needs you! We are asking families with young children to sign up through this website. Once you are in the list, we can contact you with potential studies. If you are interested, that’s great! We will work with you to schedule a time that is best. If not, no problem. We can ask again once a new study becomes available. Click our FAQ for more information.

What happens in a study?

We run many different studies across campus. All studies are designed to be age-appropriate and engaging to your child - we want you and your children to enjoy the experience at the University of Alberta. Take a look at the FAQ or About Us page to find out more about what each lab does!

What happens to my child’s data?

The data we collect in our studies is used for research purposes only. Each study we conduct must be approved by the Research Ethics Board at the University of Alberta. Click on the FAQ to find out more. We make every effort to assure both families’ online safety and the confidential information we collect.

Would you like to take part?

Simply fill out the form - click the button below to begin.

Once you are there, we ask for contact information (so that we can call or email you) and basic information for children under 18 years old (e.g., names, birth dates, language background). This way, we can contact you once a study is available. Even if you sign up now, there is no obligation for you to agree to participate when we call you in the future.

Are you pregnant? Sign up here!

Congratulations! If you are pregnant but are interested in participating in the ChIRP labs, sign up here! Because we know that new mothers are busy, we will contact you after your due date to ask whether you are still interested in our studies.
